Singham Review

It was good to watch a movie without wanting to get away from the hall midway. When the whole summer has been such a disappointment where movies are concerned, it was a refreshing change to watch Singham. Without any bias, it is clear that Suriya's 25th movie is a better hit than Vijay's 50th. Vettaikaran would have been a better movie to celebrate as Vijay's 50th movie. It was a good decision on Suriya's part to make Singham his 25th movie milestone.

Singham is all about a common man from Nallur who becomes a cop on the insistence of his father. His father owns a provision stores and Dorai Singham's (Suriya) wish is to run the provision stores and build it to a bigger departmental store. He believes is settling matters by talk rather than law's interference for mundane matters. He does not wish for fame or popularity or rise in his work.

He meets Kavya (Anushka Shetty) in his village when she comes there on vacation. Incidents involving his goodness and intelligence lead to her falling in love with Dorai Singham who in turn reciprocates to her. The villain Mayil Vaghanam who is enormous in his illegal dealings in chennai has to bend to Dorai Singham under certain circumstances in Nallur which is Dorai Singham's territory. So, the villain sees that Dorai Singham is brought to Chennai through promotion where the villain and avenge the insult. Thus Dorai Singham ends up in Chennai and gets motivated by Kavya to clean the mess of the villain's rule in Chennai. He busts a kidnapping racket and emerges the hero of the mass by sheer bravery and intelligence.

The above story may sound like old wine in a new bottle, but the fact of the matter is that it is a good mass entertainer. Suriya's acting skills seems to develop with every movie. He selects good scripts and whatever the character, he completely involves in it and gets into it. Not everybody can get into the character like him in Maayavi or Perazhagan. He has danced well and of course, DSP's music hits right on spot everytime and all the time. Prakash Raj has acted superb and like always shines with his screen presence. They have inserted the right doses of Vijay Kumar, Manorama, Radha Ravi, Nazer and others who live up to their name and experience in acting. Anushka has not got much scope to show her talent (which she has in abundance), yet she has done well in the small frame that she occupies. It will be nice not to see so much of her skin because she has enough talent and does not need to show skin to become popular with masses. The graphic of Suriya as a lion is not overdosed on us and in all the movie it is done only 4-5 times which is good or else it would be nauseating. That is a very good example of director Hari's skill.

All in all, a good entertainer, paisa vasool and another blockbuster like last summer's Ayan!!!
A must watch after all the disappointing movies this summer!!!
